My approach

As a gynaecologist who has been caring for infertile patients for the last 20 years, I was able to witness the phenomenal development that the field has experienced over the last two decades with such milestones as the development of safe ovarian stimulation protocols, the establishment of highly-effective vitrification which has revolutionized egg and embryo freezing, the steady improvement of laboratory embryology procedures and the wide diffusion of preimplantation genetic testing of embryos among many others (with some of these, I was involved both as a clinician and researcher). I was also lucky to have had the opportunity of being trained and having worked in different countries with widely different approaches to treating infertility.

My journey has led me through countries like France with its generous public health system, the UK with its emphasis on regulation and transparency, Japan with its unique mild approach to infertility treatment, and Spain with its effervescent private sector which has been at the forefront of innovation for decades. These varied experiences influenced my views on the ideal care that could be provided to our patients.
